I don’t watch a lot of Lifetime movies and generally when I see one at all, it’s because I’m flipping around on the tube ( generally late at night ) looking for something to watch. And from time to time I see a movie on Lifetime that at the very least looks interesting, because even though it’s a cable network that’s based for women, ( not that there’s anything wrong from that ) they do a lot of mystery movies and even action/drama type programing and movies and you see people there that perhaps you’ve seen in other places and networks or movies, or you see people there that just aren’t very well-known if at all. Who perhaps come from the theater, independent films, or perhaps come down from Canada and are well-known there or not at all, but someone discovers them there or in America and decides they would be right for their Lifetime TV movie.

Source:IMDB– Dina Meyer and Alain Chanoine

Actress Dina Meyer, sort of fits both roles as someone who has done several Lifetime films, who has been seen in other movies working for other film companies, been seen on TV and even in big Hollywood movies, but isn’t well-known in the sense where everyone who watches a lot of movies and TV has not only heard of her, but knows exactly who she is and what her background is. If The Boy Next Door has a star at all, it would be Dina Meyer who isn’t just the star of this movie, but is the only star in the movie. Perhaps the one actress or actor that someone who watches TV and movies on a regular basis that people have heard of and seen before. Not a knock on Dina or the rest of the cast, because this movie is actually pretty good and not just Dina but the cast in general. But this is a Lifetime movie and unless you’re Lifetime junkie The Boy Next Door from 2008, is probably not a movie that you think about or have ever heard of.

Dina Meyer, plays Sara ( last name apparently unknown ) who is a mystery writer who moves to a small town to finish her latest book and is dealing with writers book. Who meets a young man perhaps in his early 20s if that who lives next door to her at her new house. She sort of falls in love with Michael ( played by Christopher Russell and become obsessed with him to the point that she’s taking pictures of him everyday when he’s out in the yard. What seems like a very friendly and charming small town where the locals even seem welcoming of new residents, becomes very cold at least towards Sara when Michael turns up dead and it looks like he was murdered. And Sara becomes the local sheriff’s office prime suspect and everyone in the town now views Sara as the prime suspect in the murder case as well.

Source:SJ Klein– Christopher Russell and Dina Meyer

Sara, goes from being a well-known and successful mystery writer to an amateur snoop who is working on her own case to find out who actually murdered Michael. And I believe she plays the amateur PI role very well, but it’s not that believable I believe that someone with no law enforcement or investigative experience now all the sudden become a very good private investigator. The Boy Next Door has a real Hallmark Mystery or Hart To Hart mystery feel to it where amateur snoops, become the star investigators in the case and not only that, but they become the people who actually catch the killers and bring them to justice. But Dina Meyer does an excellent job of playing that role.

I don’t think Ice is a great movie, but just because a movie isn’t a great movie, doesn’t mean that it’s not good, or at least entertaining and very entertaining. Typical of a lot of Traci Lords movies which tend to be b-movies anyway, ( I mean, we are talking about a porn actress ) there is a lot of cheesy writing in the movie that makes it sound like some action TV show from the 1970s or 80s, that never got off the ground, because the pilot failed. ( Ha, ha, get it ) But typical of her movies there’s also a lot of sexy scenes with her in it and I’m not talking about her porn films ( necessarily ) and a lot of good action scenes. Car chases and shootouts., where she’s either playing a tough, badass, sexy, gorgeous cop, or in this case a bad girl who gets the bad guys at the end with her husband.

11388
Source:Alamy– Traci Lords and Jamie Alba

Even with Traci’s gorgeous, baby face, she plays a bad girl in Ice. Ellen Reed ( played by Traci Lords ) and her husband Charley Reed ( played by Phillip Troy ) are cat burglars sho steel diamonds from the mafia and the local police detectives are on to them to try to catch them. This is really not a movie about bad guys and girls versus good guys and girls, but more like a movie about dancing with the devil that you know the best with the mafia being the worst devils in this case and the cops trying to use the Reeds’s to help them bring down the local mafia there. Not that different from how the FBI an U.S. Attorney’s use informants and ex-mobsters to help them bring down the mafia in New York and other big cities in America.

The plot alone I believe makes Ice a very interesting movie. But it’s a cheap film like most b-movies and unlike Intent To Kill that did have other stars in it including Traci Lords with Scott Patterson and Yaphet Koto, I don’t believe unless you’re some Hollywood movie historian and junkie, I don’t believe that you would recognize anyone else in this movie other than Traci Lords. But considering that Ice is a movie with a lot of perhaps c-actors and not even b-actors and that Traci at this point at least is probably just a b-actress at this point, Ice is a very watchable and entertaining film. Especially considering what they had to to work with. Sort of like an NFL team that wins 9 or 10 games without any stars on the team, Ice is a good film especially considering what it had to work with.

USA Network: In Plain Sight- Something About Mary McCormack

65480
Source:In Plain Sight Wiki– A lot of something about Mary McCormack

Source:The Action Blog

“Sundays, 10/9c beginning June 1st. In Plain Sight is an hour-long drama that revolves around Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack), a tough, sexy US Marshal who works for the Federal Witness Protection Program. While many of the witnesses under her care are high-maintenance career criminals, some are just innocent people who had the misfortune of witnessing a crime or falling victim to one.”

From USA Network

Mary McCormack
Source:USA Network– There’s something about Mary McCormack.

Did In Plain Sight make actress Mary McCormack a star? I personally knew about her from watching her on ABC’s Murder One from back in 1995-96 where she played one of the lawyers at the firm there. And liked her back then both physically, but as an actress as well. And then about ten years later where she played the National Security Advisor on NBC’s The West Wing. The West Wing, goes off the air in 2006 and she gets In Plain Sight from USA a couple years later. She’s been around for a while and has been very successful for a while, but perhaps In Plain Sight made her a household name.

26612
Source:IMDB– Mary McCormack, as U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon

What In Plain Sight did for ( there’s a lot of something about ) Mary McCormack, is not just make her the star of that hit show from USA, but the main reason if not only reason to watch that show. She plays U.S. Deputy Marshal Mary McCormack, who is a badass Federal law enforcement officer who has a no bullshit ( to be frank ) attitude and doesn’t take anything from anyone, including her family. Who operates in a world where everyone around her is dependent on her and wants something from her.

Her no bullshit attitude operates in a world of bullshitters where both her mother and adult sister not just live with her, but are dependent on Mary for their economic survival. And she feels used and perhaps abused even by her own family and then she’s hard-ass U.S. Marshal who works for the U.S. Witness Protection Bureau and deals with professional bullshit artists for a living which just compounds all of her issues for her. And operates in a world where the only people she really trusts are the people she works with including her partner and supervisor.

Similar to Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order SVU who also plays a badass female cop, as tough as attitude and first impression is, she’s just too cute, beautiful, and feminine to completely fool people with her attitude. Mary McCormack, as well as her character U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon, is a tall, gorgeous, sexy, very cute sexy blonde who wears tight outfits on her show a lot and unless you’re gay or something, perhaps blind as well it would be very hard if not impossible to at least notice her, if not be attracted to her. On the outside she’s a very feminine and attractive woman, but with the attitude of an Army Drill Sergeant, where you would have to be a complete idiot to want to mess with her. And plays this role perfectly and makes a good show very entertaining all by herself.

Intent To Kill
Source:Leather Series & Movie Trailers– Traci Lords, as an undercover LAPD Detective in Intent To Kill.

Today shows and movies featuring gorgeous, sexy big city police detectives and other law enforcement officers are very common. Just look at Law & Order SVU, CSI Las Vegas, The Mentalist, movies like One For The Money where Catherine Heigl plays a New Jersey bounty hunter and I could go on. But in the early 1990s, actresses even gorgeous and sexy actresses, even very good if not great actresses were playing the wives or girlfriends of big police detectives, or playing the victims. Perhaps they would play a rookie patrol officer or desk officer, but generally not involved in doing the legwork and dirty work of what vice cops do to bring down criminals and put themselves in serious physical danger.

83655
Source:PM Stunt Fan– Traci Lords, about to kick ass

Whatever you think of Intent To Kill and I’m one of the first people to say that it’s not a great movie, even though I like it and have seen it several times, Intent To Kill was ahead of it’s time in a positive way, because it had a female police detective who ends up bringing down the bad guys ( to use a cliche ) almost by herself. Her partner and boyfriend ( played by Scott Patterson ) ends up being the one who dies during the last shootout in the movie, not the woman with her boyfriend trying to save her as well and the day. ( To use another cliche ) Traci Lords, is the badass, super cop in the movie who brings down the bad guys. A Los Angeles drug gang, that’s involved in other crimes like rape and murder.

Again, I’m not saying that Intent To Kill is a great movie. Some if not a lot of the writing especially for a 1990s film was pretty cheesy. Traci Lords, made a name for herself in the adult film industry not as a great dramatic or action star. But she’s great in this movie as a LAPD vice detective who is gorgeous, sexy, has the look more of an LA biker chick with the black leather biker jacket, Levi’s jeans, black leather boots, but who isn’t just a pleasure to check out, but who plays a very sharp cop as well who is always ahead of the game. Her first seen in the movie she takes out a rapist on her own, because the victim is a hooker who is simply not believable as a rape victim. Which was a very different time back then. And she ends up essentially playing the female Dirty Harry in this movie and does a great job. A very entailing movie especially if you enjoy seeing gorgeous, sexy women kicking ass.

Law & Order SVU: Kelli Kiddish: As NYPD Detective Amanda Rollins

Source:The Action Blog

From Wikipedia

“It was announced on June 27, 2011 that Giddish would join the cast of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for its thirteenth season along with Cold Case’s Danny Pino coinciding with Christopher Meloni’s departure from the series.[7] Giddish told TV Guide during summer filming; “Everybody on the set is really excited and energized. They’ve lost a family member with Chris Meloni leaving, but they’ve been very accepting of us. Amanda is thrilled to be here working with these people, and so am I.”[8]

Giddish made her debut as Detective Amanda Rollins in the 13th-season premiere, “Scorched Earth”, in which the character first works alongside Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). In an interview with TV Guide, Giddish said about her character, “My character is in complete awe of Olivia, Amanda’s really eager to get in there because she knows her stuff and really eager to learn. She has come from Atlanta and there was a ceiling there, so she’s come up to New York.”

From  Mike Lenskikh

“Actress Kelli Giddish on the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Law & Order - SVU
Source: Mike Lenskikh– Actress Kelli Giddish, on the set of Law & Order SVU.

From first appearance at least, Kelli Giddish looks like she would be one of the last people playing a hard-nosed ( to use a term from the 1950s ) big city police detective who is dedicated to her job as a police detective and always wants to get the bad guy or girl and protect the innocent. Especially people who prey on the innocent. Law & Order SVU, is a drama about NYPD detectives who handle sexual assault cases. Everything from child abuse rape and everything in between or even worst than those cases. So this NYPD unit deals with rapists, as well as people who sexually abuse innocent people, as well as murder them. They deal with some of the worst criminals you can possibly imagine, as well as some people who are mentally unhealthy, who commit horrible crimes.

Source:Action– Kelli Giddish, as NYPD-SVU Detective Amanda Rollins.

I say Kelli Giddish and the character that she plays ( NYPD Detective Amanda Rollins ) because physically she comes off as so adorable and sweet and simply as someone who is not tough enough to deal with these cases. On the surface at least, Kelli Giddish looks like someone who would be better suited playing a heiress, or someone who works for a fashion magazine, model, perhaps one of those people who are simply famous for being famous like a heiress who spends most of their time spending away the trust fund that their rich father gave them, as well as getting into trouble. But that just goes to show you how terrific an actress that Kelli Giddish is who is someone who has such an adorable the American sweetheart next door demeanor and yet she plays a very tough NYC cop, who not only takes on the bad guys and girls, but who also kicks a lot of ass on the show.

Law & Order SVU, is a modern cop show about detectives who do a lot of leg work, as well as undercover work and are always on the move and not just investigating bad people, but taking them down. And taking down people to arrest them who don’t want to be caught. So you see physical altercations on this show on a regular basis and because of this you see beautiful, sexy women like Kelli and Mariska Hargitay ( who plays Detective Lieutenant Olivia Benson ) on the show looking beautiful and very sexy, dressing pretty casually. A lot of skin-tight jeans, boots, tight tops. A lot of times on the show Kelli looks like a Western cowgirl cop wearing a Western jacket with her skin-tight jeans and cowgirl boots. Instead of wearing a suit jacket or leather jacket that would be more common with big city cops in America.

The modern TV cop show now has a lot of women playing the top cops on the show and doing a lot of the dangerous work as detectives, sergeants, or lieutenants. Whether it’s Elisabeth Shue and Jorga Fox on CSI Las Vegas, Mariska Hargitay and Kelli Giddish on Law & Order SVU. Which is why you not only see very attractive women on shows like this today, when 20 years ago they would be working in offices and even managing companies, but not doing physical dangerous work like working as vice detectives that they do today and doing other law enforcement jobs. Kelli Giddish, is the perfect example of what the modern TV cop looks like today. Beautiful, sexy, and even adorable on the outside at least, but very tough physically and personally and not someone you want to mess with.

“Earlier this week, “Extra’s” Mario Lopez spoke to Sophia Bush at Universal Studios Hollywood, where she opened up about her decision to walk away from her hit show “Chicago P.D.”

Bush said, “I woke up one day and realized I hadn’t had a day off in 15 years.”

She added, “I went straight from junior year of college to ‘One Tree Hill’ and suddenly you realize your life is going by and you’re working 100 hours a week.”

After taking a much needed break, Sophia is “excited” to be back to work, promoting her new film “The Incredibles 2.”

To be completely honest with you, I only got into Chicago P.D. the last few years at all because I saw a few reruns and noticed that Sophia Bush whose name I never even heard of before, but then got to thinking that was very familiar and then I looked up the show and her online because she looked like one of the actresses from the teen soap opera One Tree Hill from ten years earlier. A show I watched on Soap Net about six years ago and she played one of the main characters on that show. But that she was much better looking now especially sexier while still remming just as adorable as she was back 2004-05, 06, etc.

And like One Tree Hill which was sort of like for Millennial’s which I’m not what Beverly Hills 90210 ( the original ) was for my Generation X. The main if not first soap opera about that generation and it wasn’t as good as Beverly Hills and not as successful, but still a good show about that generation and I would argue very accurate as well, but how One Tree Hill is with Beverly Hills Chicago P.D. is not as good as Law & Order especially the original Law & Order from the 1990s or even Law & Order SYU. Not that Chicago isn’t a good show or even a great show, but that it’s not as good as the show that probably inspired it.

30065747201_bf7b9bcf2a_o
Source:OTH Balkan– Sophia Bush on Chicago P.D.

Teen soap operas regardless of the generation that they were about became popular in the 1990s. Cop shows became popular in the 1990s as well because of shows like Law & Order and the CSI Las Vegas in the 2000s. To the point that thanks to NBC with their Law & Order franchise and CBS with their CSI franchise, cop and law enforcement shows are perhaps the most popular shows on network TV right now, because of all of these great cop shows and the great casts and characters that they put together. Chicago P.D., which is a police detective show where a lot of the characters are either detectives or sergeants, but based of course in Chicago unlike Law & Order in New York.

One thing that I like about the Detective Erin Lindsay character on Chicago P.D. ( played by Sophia Bush ) if that she fits the old cliches don’t let appearances fool you, or don’t judge a book by it’s cover, or I would add don’t let the baby face fool, because she’a lot tougher than she looks. She plays this beautiful, but baby face as cute as a little girl Chicago P.D. detective and yet she handles herself with the best of them and kicks as about as well as any guy on that show. The last part might be going pretty far, because you have big strong men who are also detectives on that show, but similar to the Elisabeth Shue character on CSI Las Vegas, she’s mote than capable of handling herself and even pressing the issue when she’s interrogating witnesses and suspects and making arrests.

The modern cop action/drama show has a lot of attractive, sexy women on it who kick ass on the show and do that wearing very tight, sexy outfits. Sophia’s main outfit on that show are tight t-shirts, skin-tight jeans, and heeled boots with a beautiful body as well. She plays a vice detective so of course she’s going to very casually dressed, but that’s what people want to see with their cop shows today which are strong, tough, but very sexy women and Sophia Bush was one of the best at playing that strong, tough, sexy women on that show.

“1991 Thelma and Louise TV Movie Trailer”

From Beta Max

If you’re familiar with the so-calld me too movement and have followed that and are a fan of it, you’re going to like this movie even though it came out 26 years before me too was a popular term in American English dictionary, because a lot of what these two women ( Thelma and Louise ) go through in this movie is what me too is about. Which is essentially young women and women older than that, very attractive women as well like Thelma and Louise and how they’ve been mistreated by men in their lives. In many cases by men who they trusted.

86317
Source:Mental Floss– Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon as Thelma and Louise

Susan Sarandon, plays Louise and plays a woman who was raped several years earlier and never reported it not even to her best friend Thelma. ( Played by Geena Davis ) Thelma, gets raped in this movie by a guy ( played by Timothy Carhart ) she met at a bar who she was hanging out with and he gets too physical for her. And they both reach a point in their lives where they’re tired of being screwed especially by people they trust and just let it all out and let it all go and just screw caution because they’re mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. ( Famous line from a certain great movie )

16916
Source:Common Sense Media – Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon as Thelma and Louise

Thelma and Lousie, don’t start off their vacation in this movie as outlaws. They’re simply looking to get away and have a great time. Thelma, gets sexually assaulted in the parking lot at the first bar they go to that night before Louise finds them and rescues here which gets out of hand and she ends up shooting the man who sexually assaulted her best friend Thelma. So now they’re on the run because they decided not to report the crime thinking no one would believe them ( sound familiar? ) and now they’re on the run in rural Arkansas, ( as if there is any other kind of Arkansas ) but it gets even better because they pick up a young guy ( played by Brad Pitt ) who gets very friendly with Thelma, but he doesn’t physically assault and instead just takes all of Thelma and Louise’s money. So now they’re on the run with no money to support themselves.

Originally Thelma and Louise and just wanted by the state police for questioning of the shooting of the guy that Louise shot and killed outside of the bar. But when they go on the run Thelma knocks off some stores for the cash because they’re out of money. So this movie turns into a cross state char chase by the state police in pursuit of Thelma and Louise. This is very good movie, a very relevant movie to what’s going on in America with me too the last two years. A very funny movie with Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Chis MacDonald, Harvey Keitel, Steve Tobolowski, and many other great comedic actors. And a very sexy movie with Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis playing the female outlaws in the movie.

There has been a trend in Hollywood going back 10-15 years and perhaps because of the success of CSI Las Vegas and Law & Order SVU of not just crime fighting shows or cop shows, but shows like that which are very sexy and are the cast is very sexy. Very attractive with a lot of beautiful sexy women on it playing the roles of lead detectives and doing a lot of the hard dangerous work on the cases.

And when you look at their detective units where these people work at the office, there’s no such thing as Casual Friday, but instead they have Casual Everyday. Where the dressiest outfit for women there would be a pantsuit, but with boots instead of dress or business shoes. You’ll still see male detectives, sergeants, and lieutenants wearing business suits, but not so much with the women on these shows.

A common outfit for female detectives especially when they’re on the road and either questioning witnesses, suspects, or catching suspects will be a t-shirt sometimes long sleeve, but a lot of times short sleeve, with skin-tight denim jeans, maybe kaki jeans or cargo pants, with boots. Looking beautiful, sexy, and kicking ass as cops. Shows like CSI with Marg Helgenberger, Elisabeth Shue. Law & Order SVU with Mariska Hargitay and Kelli Giddish. True Justice with Meghan Ory and Sarah Lind. Saving Grace with Holly Hunter from ten years ago. The Mentalist with Robin Tunney and Amanda Righetti. Chicago PD with Sophia Bush and many other shows like that from this era.

A big part of this obviously has to do with style with boots and jeans being so popular now with women, along with staying in shape with women wanting to show their bodies off in a stylish professional way, but also because this look is so versatile and practical and women can wear boots and jeans to the office without looking too casual now. And because they’re playing not just cops, but detectives who are in a lot of dangerous situations where they have to not only catch suspects, but catch people who don’t want to get caught and have to physically confront suspects.

Beautiful both men and women in America like seeing women kick ass on TV and do it in a sexy way. The common female TV cop now is beautiful, sexy, and fairly young. Who is more than capable of defending herself who wears a lot of tight outfits which is what people want to see from their TV cops now both men and women. Gone are the days where TV cops were almost always guys and generally middle age guys who are always wearing business suits. Now the common TV detective both male and female are younger, very attractive, well-built, and sexy, because that is what the viewers want to see.

From CBS

If you believe never hearing of the CBS 1990 cop drama Broken Badges makes you special, you need to take a trip back to the drawing board especially if everything else about you is normal. You try to put a fan club together for a series that would barely qualify as a mini-series when we’re only talking about 10 episodes or so and you might fill up a phone booth, but leaving room for people to breathe and move inside of it.

26002
Source: BMPR– Eileen Davidson before she was a star, guess starring on Broken Badges. And perhaps thinking what she’s doing sitting next to a guy with a toy doll, but I’m not a mindreader.

Which is fine because unless you’re a big fan of Eileen Davidson ( from the great soap opera The Young and The Restless ) or big fans of Ernie Hudson or Miguel Ferer, Charlotte Lewis even, or CBS is not only your favorite network but has been your whole life and perhaps you’re the President of the CBS Fan Club and can name everything that great network has ever produced from the flops like Broken Badges to great shows like M*A*S*H and not just grew up with the network and it remained your favorite network as an adult as even a middle age adult, your’e probably not familiar with this show either.

I only got into Broken Badges myself when I started watching The Young and The Restless and Days of Our Lives several years ago when Eileen Davidson was working on both shows. And I was thinking I think I knew who she was before I started watching these shows, because I’ve seen her in a few other things and started looking into what she’s also done, because she’s great on both soaps and great to look at as well. ( And water is still wet )

And started thinking about a certain b-movie that she did like in the late 1980s which of course was Easy Wheels where she plays a biker goddess who is the leader off a female biker gang. And then thinking didn’t she play a tough but sexy cop on a cop show from like the late 80s or early 90s when I was in high school. That is how I got into Broken Badges myself and watched every single episode of that short lived series last weekend in preparation for this piece. Broken Badges, obviously did flopped or it wouldn’t have started in late 1990 and barley made it to 1991, but there were some good things about it and it did have a good cast.

The whole premise of Broken Badges where you have the rebellious officers and detectives who had issues with rules and following them and are always in trouble with their superiors, that are lead by a detective sergeant ( played by Miguel Ferer ) who was fired by the New Orleans PD and then broth in by the Bay City ( fictional town and PD ) because he wouldn’t follow department rules, regulations, take orders, thinks he smarter than everyone else, pretty much explains why this show barley qualifies as a series. This show would’ve been suited if it was based on a private detective agency where the detectives are all ex-cops who are talented but fired by their department for breaking the rules, that are brought in by a guy starting his own new detective agency after he was fired from his department.

But a lot of pilots fail and perhaps most do, but that doesn’t mean they’re complete failures if they have good casts that were good on those pilots and become stars later on and the failed pilots that they were part of become like jumpstarts for their careers. Easy Wheels and Broken Badges, didn’t make Eileen Davidson, Ernie Hudson, Miguel Ferer, or Charlotte Lewis stars. Hudson and Ferer, were already somewhat known from shows and movies from earlier in their careers. Hudson, with Ghostbusters and Ferer with Robocop. And Broken Badges allowed for Eileen Davidson to be on network TV and be seen which lead to other and much better roles for her.

Just to talk about Officer Bullet ( played by Eileen Davidson ) she plays this very tough and yet sexy, gorgeous, very cute even. What would be called a vice detective where she goes undercover a lot and works with dangerous people that would kill her if they discovered she was a cop. And she’s doing this work with a look of a badass biker chick very similar to Easy Wheels which came out right before Broken Badges went on the air in 1990. She’s always wearing this sexy black leather biker jacket , blue Levi’s jeans, black western boots, and there are a few scenes where she’s wearing black leather chaps over her blue Levi’s denim jeans. And she’s kicking ass in the movie a lot but always kicking bad guys ass, because of course her character is addicted to danger as the background of her character says. Eileen Davidson, is all the reason I need to watch this show and it also has a lot good humor and funny scenes in it as well.

“Never have the opening lines of a TV show been met with such fervent enthusiasm as the introduction for Law & Order: SVU.

Die-hard fans (myself included) can easily recite it by heart: “In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories. Dun dun.”

From The Daily Beast

To say that NBC’s Law & Order SVU is ahead of it’s time, would be like saying that it gets hot in Texas especially in the summer or it rains in Seattle, well at any point during the year or it snows in Minnesota in January and hopefully you get the idea by now. ( God help you if you don’t )

They were talking about issues back in 1999-2000 ( the first season of SVU ) 17-18 years before the so-called Me Too movement emerged in 2017. They were dealing cases as a detective squad about women being raped and sexually abused in other ways. As well as little girls and boys who are sexually abused by their parents and other adults in their lives.

The original Law & Order which I still get to watch every week ( thanks to Sundance and TNT ) is still favorite now just show from this franchise, but one of my favorite shows ever, especially from the 1990s and 2000s, but SVU is right up there as one of the best cop dramas on TV.

Perhaps the best cop drama on TV right now, but I’m guessing fans of CSI Las Vegas would probably dispute that. Maybe they can get together on TV ( fans of both shows ) and debate on live national TV. I’m sure Bravo would be happy to broadcast that and it would be ultimate and perhaps even real reality TV show.

But on a less substantive note but still important the Olivia Benson character ( played by Mariska Hargitay ) is one of the first sexy female police detectives on TV. There’ve been beautiful, sexy, younger female law enforcement officers on TV before.

Angie Dickinson was the original with Police Woman from the 1970s, Heather Thomas from The Fall Guy in the 1980s, Kelly Hu from Nash Bridges from the late 1990s and perhaps there are more.

But Mariska is the first from a trend that started in the mid 2000s or so where you would have beautiful, sexy women playing tough cops who kick ass on a regular basis and even kick male ass.

They’re no longer playing secretary’s, receptionists or desk sergeants that just take calls and pass on information to the real detectives and their superiors, but working cases and getting into conflict and having to physically take on strong male suspects who could severely hurt them if not kill them if the female officer is not up to the task.

Mariska, is the first female TV law enforcement officer to where tight jeans and boots on the show on a regular basis while she’s working and not at home or having a rare day off, but working her cases in beautiful black leather jacket, black denims, and boots.

She was doing that back in 2007-08 if not earlier and now every cop show has at least one if not multiple female lead officers who are beautiful, sexy, physically able to take care of themselves who work their cases in boots and jeans on a regular basis. Just watch CSI Las Vegas with Elisabeth Shue, or watch Criminal Minds with the attractive detectives there, Chicago PD with Sophia Bush, NCIS LA with Daniela Ruah and I could go on.

Mariska Hargiatay ( who plays now Detective Lieutenant Olivia Benson ) is not the first beautiful, sexy, sharp, witty, great cop on TV, she’s just the best cop with those qualities and that includes Angie Dickinson who I love as well and they’re now in their 20th season with apparently no plans to ever wind the show down and plan for a final season and not just because of how popular the show is and that it’s lead to over great cop shows like Chicago PD, but also because of how great the show is. How great the cast, storylines and everything else that makes cop shows great.
